If you’re not sure which type of flooring that’s right for you, the experts here at Onflooring will always give you the straight scoop on any questions you have about flooring. Recently, we have been getting more questions about which flooring to use on a bathroom floor, which generally sees more than its fair share of liquid. This is a critical question that often has a lot of misinformation associated with it. There’s an argument that hardwood floors might be better because you can replace individual boards, or that laminate flooring is better because it is more water resistant. The fact is that water is bad for both. We addressed this general question in our FAQ, but we also like to put these questions that have a heightened importance on our blog for increased exposure. Below, you will find our objective solution to flooring in your bathroom.
“Excess water spillage on any floating floor, including laminate, hardwood, cork, bamboo and leather could be problematic. If the water seeps down around the perimeter of the floor and soaks into the underlay, it can cause swelling of the floor's core material which may lead to buckling and/or gaps between the panels.”
“If your heart's intent is on having one of these floors in a bathroom, you can employ one technique which may minimize damage if you have a big spill. Seal the entire perimeter of the floor's expansion gap with 100% pure silicone sealant. This will help keep the water on top of the floor longer, enabling you wipe up the spill.”
“Luxury Vinyl planks, even the glueless locking variety on our site, are much more resistant to water and a safer choice for bathrooms. Products that we do not sell, such as tile, stone, sheet vinyl and glue down vinyl tile are also appropriate for wet areas such as bathrooms but we recommend a professional installer for these.”
