Underlayment for floating floors is designed to reduce noise and absorb and dissipate moisture. A good quality acoustic underlayment can dramatically reduce the noise the floating floor makes, and create a strong and stable foundation for the locking joint system. All floating floors require an underlayment.
STC is a measurement that indicates how much noise is absorbed, and therefore stopped, by the wall or floor. This generally applies to airborne noise within a room. IIC is a measurement that indicates how much impact noise is stopped in the floor or ceiling, reducing the noise traveling from one level to another. The higher the rating, the better the sound absorption. The data is based on 6" concrete with ceiling assembly.
