A reducer transition strip (or simply "reducer") is a sloped molding designed to create a smooth, safe transition between two adjacent floors that sit at different heights.
A reducer is the correct molding whenever the two surfaces do not meet evenly—whether you are joining vinyl plank to tile, laminate to concrete, or wood to sheet vinyl.
OnFlooring carries thousands of color-matched reducers across every major flooring brand, all visible here.
A reducer is used when one flooring material is thicker than the other. Vinyl plank meeting thin tile, laminate meeting bare floor, engineered wood meeting LVP, and floating floors meeting glued-down surfaces all create a height difference.

A reducer bridges that drop and covers the required expansion gap on floating floors - the expansion gap is the "lip" side of the reducer. The lip side is typically around 1/2" in depth.
Reducers serve two important functions: they improve the safety and comfort of walking between rooms, and they protect the transition point from chipping or lifting. Even a small height change can cause wear over time, so a reducer should always be installed where flooring materials do not align perfectly.

A reducer is the correct choice whenever two floors meet at different heights. It creates a smooth transition, protects the flooring edges, and provides a finished, professional result. OnFlooring offers thousands of color-matched reducers for laminate, vinyl plank, hardwood, and tile.
